Labour Hire in Craigieburn and Melbourne's North

Subdivision civil, arterial roadworks and the Campbellfield to Somerton industrial belt.

The northern corridor runs two kinds of work side by side. North of the Western Ring Road it is greenfield, the Craigieburn, Mickleham, Donnybrook and Wollert estates turning paddock into subdivision, with the civil packages that go with it. South of it, Campbellfield and Somerton hold a long established manufacturing, food processing and transport belt that has been there for decades.

The arterial road programme sits between them. Hume Highway upgrades, level crossing removals on the Craigieburn line and the road works feeding the new estates all run heavy on traffic control, often overnight. Bluestone supplies across all three, and the mix is the reason we keep separate pools rather than one general list of workers.

What the northern corridor asks for

Greenfield civil, arterial road works, and an established industrial belt. Different work, different workers.

Civil labourers

Drainage, trenching and general site labour across the Craigieburn, Mickleham, Wollert and Donnybrook subdivisions.

Traffic controllers

Ticketed controllers for the Hume corridor, level crossing works and estate road tie ins. A large share of this work runs overnight.

Plant operators

Excavator, roller and loader operators for bulk earthworks and subdivision civil, plus the quarry and materials operations on the northern fringe.

Forklift operators

Licensed operators for the food manufacturing, transport and distribution sites through Campbellfield, Somerton and Epping.

Production workers

Machine operators, assembly and packaging hands for the food processing and manufacturing plants through Campbellfield, Somerton and Thomastown. Hygiene inductions and gowning requirements are screened before the placement, not on the morning.

Warehouse staff

Pickers, packers, storepersons and dispatch for the distribution sites through Epping and Somerton. Accuracy on the pick matters more than raw speed on most of these contracts.

Concreters

Pour crews for crossovers, footpaths and the industrial slab work through the established northern estates.

Dogmen and riggers

Rigging personnel for precast and structural steel on the industrial and commercial builds.

The work we see in the north

  • Greenfield subdivision civil at Craigieburn, Mickleham, Donnybrook and Wollert, running the full earthworks to kerb sequence.
  • Arterial road works and level crossing removals, overnight and weekend, heavy on traffic control.
  • Food manufacturing and processing through Campbellfield and Somerton, where inductions are stricter and reliability is everything.
  • Transport and distribution operations along the Hume corridor.
  • Water, power and telecommunications service works feeding the new estates.

Bluestone Labour Group holds Victorian Labour Hire Licence VICLHL11535. In Victoria it is a legal requirement for a host employer to use a licensed labour hire provider, and the obligation sits with you as well as with us.

How to engage workers in the north

Greenfield civil in the north tends to run as a mixed crew. Ticketed traffic controllers and experienced plant operators frequently hold their own ABN and work that way by choice, while general site labour sits better as casual employment on our payroll. Manufacturers and depots further south, through Campbellfield, Somerton and Thomastown, are covered on our Campbellfield labour hire page.

The Campbellfield and Somerton manufacturing and food processing sites are the opposite case. That work is rostered, directed and supervised by the host, often with strict site inductions, so casual employees on our payroll is the appropriate model. Engaging a production worker as a contractor in that setting is the arrangement most likely to be challenged.

Either way you receive one weekly invoice, timesheets approved by your supervisor, and no sign up fee, no minimum crew size and no lock in contract. If you are not sure which model suits a role, ask us before the booking rather than after.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. A large share of arterial road work in the north runs overnight, and we keep traffic controllers who prefer night shift rather than rostering day workers onto it. That is usually where reliability breaks down on night jobs.

Yes. These are among the busiest civil sites in Melbourne and we place labourers, plant operators, concreters and traffic controllers across them.

Yes. Forklift operators, production workers and warehouse staff for the food processing, manufacturing and transport operations through the older northern industrial belt.

24 to 48 hours for most requests. For a specific machine class on a specific date, more notice gets you a better operator rather than the only one available. Machine size is the detail worth being precise about.
