Labour hire in Bayswater, Kilsyth and Croydon

Manufacturing and warehouse workers for the Bayswater Business Precinct, along Canterbury Road and Mountain Highway.

Bluestone Labour Group supplies production hands, storepersons, forklift operators and labourers to manufacturers, wholesalers and building businesses in Bayswater, Bayswater North, Kilsyth, Croydon and Boronia. Below is the work we see in the outer east, the roles that fit it and how a booking works.

The Bayswater Business Precinct covers more than 700 hectares across three councils, Knox, Maroondah and Yarra Ranges, and state planning lists it as a regionally significant industrial precinct. A 2021 strategy prepared for the three councils counted about 5,000 businesses and more than 33,000 jobs, the second largest employment precinct in Melbourne's east. Manufacturing is the backbone, at close to five times its share of the Greater Melbourne economy, with wholesale trade and construction behind it, and Yarra Ranges lists metals, fibreglass, heavy vehicles, pharmaceuticals and medical technology among its strengths. The precinct is cut by Canterbury Road, Mountain Highway and Colchester Road, and most freight reaches it from EastLink along Canterbury Road.

The work we see in the outer east

  • Metal fabrication and engineering workshops, where a worker who has been on a fabrication floor before is worth more than one who has not.
  • Fibreglass, heavy vehicle, pharmaceutical and medical technology manufacturing, the strengths Yarra Ranges lists for its part of the precinct.
  • Wholesale trade, a specialisation here at close to three times the Melbourne share, with stores that need storepersons and forklift operators.
  • Smaller warehouse and light industrial units replacing some of the older large factories, which often need one or two people rather than a crew.
  • Construction businesses based in the precinct, a growing part of its economy.

We hold Victorian Labour Hire Licence VICLHL11535, granted under the Labour Hire Licensing Act 2018 (Vic). A host that uses an unlicensed provider is exposed too, which is why our licence number is on every page of this site.

How we staff outer east manufacturers

Most people who work in the precinct live nearby, in Knox, Maroondah or the Yarra Ranges, and parts of Canterbury Road already run at or over capacity. So when you book, tell us the start time, and we look first for people who live in the outer east and can reach Bayswater reliably, rather than someone crossing the city. Bayswater station was rebuilt when its level crossings were removed in 2016, and a new Croydon station opened in 2024, which helps anyone coming by train.

Every worker is a casual employee on our payroll: production roles under the award that covers the work, checked against the duties before the first shift, warehouse roles under the Storage Services and Wholesale Award 2020, and construction roles under the Building and Construction General On-site Award 2020. We pay the wages, superannuation and WorkCover, and you receive one weekly invoice from the timesheets your supervisor approves.

Right to work is checked and High Risk Work Licences are sighted before anyone is offered. Training on your machines stays with you. Give us as much notice as you can, and if we cannot fill a request we say so. There is no sign up fee and no lock in contract.
